The fact is that SEO is not even near being dead, and the other fact is that new webmasters are facing increasing problems, why?

Because 99% of them are used to just copying some text they find on the internet, pasting some stolen images, possibly some YouTube clip, and easily ranking on Google.

Well, that time has passed, my dear readers, the sooner you understand, the better it will be for you, not for me, not for anyone else, for you!

The best part about this online tools is that it shows both organic and paid traffic rankings in one place.

This tools has become so popular because it’s simple to use and gives you a lot of data.

The only downside is that it can be expensive for agencies and small businesses.

The basic plan starts at $99/month, but you get a lot of features with that price including 10,000 reports/day and 2,000 keywords tracked.

This is a tool that I personally use and love.

Ahrefs is or “is not” (depend from person to person) as popular as SEMrush, but it’s just as good.

The best part about Ahrefs is that it’s great for backlinking.

You can see how many links are pointing to any given website, what the anchor text is, and even spy on your competition.

This tool is also great for in-depth competitor research.

Marketers believe that the only way to be successful in online marketing is through PPC, social media, or email marketing.

But there’s still hope for organic search results and I will prove that to you!

When done correctly, SEO can get your website on the front page of Google and bring you more traffic than PPC marketing or Facebook ads could ever do alone.

How to rank high?

It’s not about trying to trick search engines into thinking you’re relevant; it’s about creating content that people want to see and share while giving the algorithm what it wants: unique and relevant content that search users will care about.

That’s where SEO comes in.

Search engine optimization is the process of optimizing your site and content for search engines like Google and Bing so that your website shows up on relevant searches and drives relevant traffic and conversions to your site.

Keyword research is one of the most important factors when it comes to getting your website to rank well in organic search results.

If you are not ranking at all, this will probably be because you are not optimizing your site towards the right keywords.

When conducting keyword research there are three very important pieces of information that you need to be aware of which will help you determine your site’s niche.

The first piece of information is the ‘search volume’ that you can find from a number of different keyword research tools.

This basically tells you how many times people have been searching for that particular keyword over a 30 day period.

The second piece of information is what competition level there is on any given search term, and the third piece of information is the commercial potential each search term has, ie whether or not it has products being sold via an eCommerce website.

After you have conducted thorough keyword research, it’s time to start optimizing your website towards these keywords in order to get the best results from organic rankings.

In terms of SEO means customizing each page title, meta descriptions, and meta keywords.

Search engines have always been looking for ways to deliver more relevant search results to their users, so it’s important that you optimize every page on your website towards a particular keyword phrase.

It will also help if you can find a number of related keyword phrases and add them to each page as well.

For example, let’s say that the keyword phrase that you are trying to rank for is ‘Sydney hotels’.

You would then want to add variations on this term such as ‘cheap Sydney hotels’, ‘luxury Sydney hotels’, etc.

By doing this you will enhance your message within each page and make it easier for Google and other search engines to deliver accurate results.

The overall aim when optimizing your site towards a particular keyword phrase is to ensure that the search engine’s spiders understand what your page is about, and it can achieve this by using keywords within each page of your website.

This will help Google determine what you are writing about and who your target audience is.

Wordtracker is one of my favorite tools for conducting thorough keyword research because it provides all of the information I mentioned above such as ‘search volume’, ‘competition level’, and ‘commercial potential’.

Another beneficial aspect is that you can input a competitor’s website URL in order for Wordtracker to find out which keywords they have been optimizing their site for.

This then gives us an indication of where we need to be ranking for optimal results from organic rankings.

How to get your site on page one of Google

This is the rapidly growing, but still little-known world of SEO, or search engine optimization.

The basic idea behind it is this:

If you get more people to your website by getting it ranked higher on Google searches, then you’ll get more business.

Sounds simple right?

Well, it can be and it can also not be!

Getting a site onto the first page of Google’s results isn’t as easy as simply applying for some kind of magic ‘SEO ranking’ potion.

It requires an element of understanding and care along with a healthy dose of effort over time.

I’m going to try and break down how I went about getting my site on page 1 for several different into 4 major steps that really helped my site get in front of the eyes of Google and start getting thousands of visitors per day:

1. Ranking For Your Domain Name

– This is arguably the most important step, or at least it was for me.

You are given a certain number of characters that you can use in your domain name (For example ‘www.yourls.org’ has 9).

Once these characters are taken up it leaves nowhere else to go to get an additional keyword into your website name that would otherwise help with your ranking because that keyword would be the same as every other site using that name.

Your website’s dominant Keyword (Or phrase) is massively important and should really guide your choice of Domain Name.

If your product is called ‘Widgetz’ then a good choice might be ‘www.Widgetsareawesome.com’.

The reason this works well is that if someone searches Google for the word “widget” or “widgetz” which are both very popular keywords, then your site will come up in the results at least once on the first page, whereas if your domain name was say ‘www.widgetzworld.com’ – which isn’t bad, it just has more characters than necessary and doesn’t directly indicate what you’re about.

It would probably fair quite badly and come up on page 7 or 8 of Google’s results, if at all!

So while this advice may not be easy to follow, it’s something I personally found particularly important.

I changed my URL from ‘www.localhost/~james/’ to www.yourls.org and saw a dramatic improvement in rankings for the search term “Yourls” which is the main keyword that my site is about (I’m planning to use Yourls as a platform for future websites).

If you can get your domain name exactly matching one of your keywords it’s an added bonus but sometimes the opportunity just isn’t there.

Also, make sure that your keyword isn’t already taken.

2. How To Rank Higher In Google’s Search Engine Results Pages (SERPs)

Let’s say you want to rank higher for a phrase like “best bass guitars.”

There are probably hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of web pages that contain this phrase.

To make yours stand out and be easily found by searchers, you need to do two things:

Optimize your site so that it is technically well-structured and doesn’t have any glaring issues that would prevent Google from properly indexing your website content;

Add quality content to your site that is targeted at the specific phrase or keywords you’re trying to rank for.

In other words, focus on creating useful content for humans first and foremost – this alone will push you ahead in the SERPs.

Implementing a combination of both technical and content-based SEO can give you an edge in ranking higher for your target phrases, so we’ll take a deeper look at each below.

3. Technical Optimization

Keyword research: Before you start to add new keywords or phrases to your content, it’s important that you fully understand the scope of the niche or phrase you’re targeting.

This calls for keyword research using tools such as Google Keyword Planner, you can use AhRefs or Keyword Discovery.

Once you’ve identified the core keywords and phrases for your niche, you can then focus on optimizing your site to rank for these words or phrases.

We do this through a process known as “optimization” – making sure everything from our page titles and headings, to the internal link structure of our website and even the content itself makes sense in relation to what we’re trying to achieve.

Google provides a free tool that helps you analyze your website’s structure, identify issues with your existing content and even fine-tune your XML sitemaps.

This tool is called Google Search Central (GSC).

Using GSC, you can see how search engine crawlers view your website’s pages and what they think of them – thus helping you optimize the structure of your website for SEO.

XML Sitemap: An XML sitemap is an XML file that provides a list of URLs pointing to the pages on your site.

It gives search engines a simple overview of all the pages on your site so they don’t have to spider through each individual page trying to find all the links in order to properly crawl and index your website.

This ensures that search engine crawlers can find all of your pages much more efficiently, thus speeding up the amount of time it takes for them to fully index your site.

Google recommends you submit an XML sitemap if you have more than 50 or so pages on your site.

What do you mean by “SEO purposes”?

Using social media and content marketing can help with your Search Engine Optimization.

They are essential elements to any successful SEO campaign.

If you do not have time to write yourself, you can always pay for one of the AI ​​tools.

There are many advantages of using social media and content marketing as part of your strategy.

For example, authoring fresh relevant content instead of the recycled spun article.

Engaging with web users through interactive conversations (social network participation enhances brand awareness).

Building long-term backlinks naturally!

Driving targeted visitors to the website.

Making the site easily accessible via search engines, etc.

By creating blog posts, you can extend the life of your site and keep it updated.

Content is king because search engines love fresh content that is relevant to their users.

If you are not blogging regularly, then people will see your site as outdated and quickly move on to the next one in the SERPs (search engine results pages)

Be sure to pay attention to keywords within your post content – but don’t overdo it or try stuffing them into every paragraph as some people do!

It’s also important to interlink all of your posts together using keywords for better ranking potential.

This way no matter which blog post someone clicks on from a Google search, they will be brought back to another page of related content.

Search engines are smart, but they are only as good as the information that is given to them.

What this means is that if you want to rank well on Google, you need to give them what they want.

One of these things is fresh content created by humans for humans.

Humans like the new stuff – it’s how we are wired!

SEO writers exploit this fact by creating lengthy articles with numerous backlinks throughout the body text.

Wrong!

There are many “best practices” that have little to do with SEO but are still very important for building a successful website.

Following these best practices will generate more traffic to your site, create better customer relationships and build brand awareness – all of which will help with your organic search engine rankings anyway.

Here are my top five…

1) Enable Social Sharing On Every Page

There’s no real excuse for not including social sharing icons on your website anymore, especially as it’s so easy to set up.

If you really want a reason then use this:

Enabling your users to share your content should be a key goal if you’re trying to drive referral traffic to your website.

Take this blog for example: if you share any of the posts via your favorite social media site then it takes you to a page listing all the options.

It’s easy to do and well worth considering – especially for building a community around the content on your site.

2) Provide Lots Of Great Images

Great imagery can make or break your website, so make sure you provide large, high-quality photos wherever possible (not everyone has broadband these days).

The best place to include them is in product pages; they’re key to making an impression online.

Incidentally, I’d recommend that you also supply alternative text along with these images (e.g. “Screenshot showing…” rather than just the name of the image itself).

It might seem like a lot of extra work and may even lead to you repeating yourself, but Google can’t see your images – not directly anyway – so it needs alternative text for the search engines to “see” them.

3) Hire A Professional Web Designer

I’m probably biased here since I am a web designer myself, but if you want professional results then use a professional

There’s no getting away from the fact that service providers such as designers and developers generally have more experience than those working purely on their own.

Use that experience to your advantage and ask for their advice before making decisions about things like layout or content.

You can find and hire great people online at places like Fiverr (where I find most of my freelance employees).

4) Give Preference To Customer Reviews Over Manufacturer Specs

Do you sell products or services?

If so then I’m sure you’ve had more than your fair share of requests for detailed information about the product on offer – more often than not, customers are looking for third-party validation before they buy.

Why not give them exactly what they’re looking for with clearly displayed ratings and reviews?

Trust is a powerful tool in eCommerce, so help your prospects trust you by including this kind of extended content on your site.

It can be as simple as including links to review sites within your store…

First things first: before you even think about writing your blog post, take a minute to ask yourself what your goal is for the piece.

What will readers gain from reading it?

If there’s no clear goal or benefit to your readers, then ditch the post and start over again.

6. The Blog Post Body

Once you’ve got your goals set for your blog post, it’s time to write!

Here are some components that every good blog post should include:

A Strong Headline

It almost goes without saying that a blog post needs a strong headline – but how do you write one of those?

First off, keep it as short as possible (ideally under 50 characters).

If you can’t say it in a sentence, then re-write the headline.

Besides keeping your headline short and sweet, make sure that the benefits of reading the post are immediately apparent.

Try and include keywords (specific search terms) in your content, this will help increase your blog’s rankings on Google and other Search Engines.

Introduction

The introduction is where you give readers an idea of what to expect from the rest of your blog post – without revealing too much about what to expect!

Introduce any major ideas or arguments that you’ll be discussing in further detail throughout the body of your blog post.

The fewer people have to read, the more likely they are to continue reading your blog post all the way through.

One trick to achieving this is to write an introduction that doesn’t actually introduce anything at all!

A great example of this would be:

“We’ve all heard the old adage ‘less is more’.

But, if you ask me, less is simply less.”

That’s it.

There’s no information given about what to expect in the rest of the post, but there are enough hints for experienced readers to understand where I’m going with this article – and hopefully, they’ll stick around long enough to read it too.

Sub-Headlines

A sub-headline (or ‘sub-header’) is like a mini headline; short and sweet just like the introduction.

Each sub-headline should be a brief summary of the content that follows underneath it.

Remember: Keep it concise – no matter how good your blog post is, nobody will bother reading it if you make them work too hard to read it!

Body

The body (where most of the action happens) is where you flesh out your ideas and arguments further than what’s possible in an introduction or sub-headline.

It’s important to think about why people are interested in reading your blog post; do they want to gain knowledge?

Are they looking for inspiration?

Or perhaps they’re just looking to kill some time on the Internet.

Whatever their purpose, make sure that you’re catering well toward it.

If your blog post is long, make sure that you break it up into distinct sections using sub-headlines.

This makes for easier reading and will cater better to casual Internet browsers who don’t want to spend too much time reading one specific article.

Conclusion

The conclusion is similar to the introduction, only now – instead of summarizing what’s already happened in your blog post – you’re summarizing what you’ve just told readers!

Bring everything full circle by re-stating your blog post goals, and then mentioning how well readers have performed toward these goals (if at all).

You may also choose to include any actionable tips or ideas that readers take away from the content of your blog posts.

Anyway… That’s it for today…
